MPOA Endorsements for 2018 Election

April 13, 2018 - - The Modesto Police Officers Association (MPOA) is a non-profit organization made up 205 sworn men and women of the Modesto Police Department. Our association represents the rank and file police officers who work and live in our community. MPOA is primarily concerned about with the working conditions of our membership in order to bring good qualified candidates to the Modesto Police Department in order to keep the citizens of Modesto safe by making Modesto a thriving community that all of us can feel safe to live in. Most of our families live in Modesto or its surrounding communities and neighborhoods. We are invested in Modesto and Stanislaus County not only from an employment point of view, but because we have families, friends, colleagues and neighbors who live here.

The Modesto Police Officers Association is committed to the community 365 days a year. MPOA doesn’t just engage with the community during election season. MPOA engages with the community by sponsoring youth sports, participating in fund raising events such as the Boys and Girls club of Stanislaus County, Christmas for Others, National Night Out and numerous other community events. MPOA also gets involved when support is needed to ensure the highways and roads of Stanislaus County are safe and maintained for the benefit of everyone in the community.

The overall safety of our community will always be our primary concern when making any type of endorsement for political office.  For these reasons, the MPOA has endorsed Jeff Dirkse for Stanislaus County Sheriff and Birgit Fladager for Stanislaus County District Attorney.

Mr. Dirkse has proven his leadership ability as an officer in the United States Army prior to joining the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Dirkse has promoted through the law enforcement ranks at the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department due to his ability to lead. Mr. Dirkse is currently the Chief of Patterson, a contracted city for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. MPOA believes that Mr. Dirkse would lead the Sheriff’s Department with fairness, integrity, dedication and accountability needed for this position. Mr. Dirkse will be a tremendous asset to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and the citizens of Stanislaus County.

Birgit Fladager is the chief prosecutor for Stanislaus County. Ms. Fladager has proven her leadership as our District Attorney for the past eleven years. Her office has a great working relationship with the men and women of the Modesto Police Officers Association. Ms. Fladager is tough but fair on crime and holds those accountable who are the greatest threat to public safety. Ms. Fladager’s office has formalized the process involving critical incidents involving law enforcement to ensure an impartial and independent investigation. This is important to keep the trust of the citizens we serve and to keep our law enforcement officers accountable. We believe Ms. Fladager has and will continue to serve the citizens of Stanislaus County with fairness, trust and accountability.
