Modesto Police Officers Association announces

endorsements in Modesto City Council election

April 30, 2015 - - The Modesto Police Officers Association (MPOA) announced today endorsements of three candidates running for election to the Modesto City Council in the November 3, 2015 city elections.

Following is a statement from Robert Gumm, MPOA PAC Chairman:

“The Modesto Police Officers’ Association (MPOA) is pleased to announce the endorsements of Mani Grewal for District 1, Kristi Ah You for District 3 and Doug Ridenour Sr for District 6. All of the candidates were sent a Candidate Questionnaire that asked questions such as the candidate’s priorities, issues within the city and their vision for the future of the city. The candidates then met with the MPOA for an interview. After reviewing the questionnaires and meeting with the candidates in person the MPOA made its endorsements.

District 1 comprises a large portion of northwest Modesto. Mani Grewal is running for this district seat and is endorsed by MPOA. Mr. Grewal is a successful businessman in our community and is a lifelong resident of Modesto. Mr. Grewal understands the importance of public safety to the city and the need to have an adequately staffed police department. He believes that city government’s first priority is to protect its citizens. A safe community will attract businesses and promote job growth. He believes in fixing the city infrastructure and is a proponent of infill development over urban sprawl.

District 3 comprises a large portion of central Modesto. Kristi Ah You is running for this district seat and is endorsed by MPOA. Kristi Ah You believes in meeting the community’s needs from public safety and ensuring safety within the community. She understands that a safe community will promote commerce and bring businesses to this community. She believes in developing close relationships with our schools and encouraging youth to further their education and prepare for the work force. She strongly believes in working together for the betterment of our community.

District 6 comprises a large portion of northeast Modesto. Doug Ridenour Sr is running for this district seat and is endorsed by MPOA. Mr. Ridenour has spent a 40+ years serving the citizens of Modesto and was a supervisor in Public Safety. We were inspired by Mr. Ridenour’s commitment to the citizens of Modesto and his management style. Mr. Ridenour understands the need for public safety and the need for city services. He believes in sensible and positive growth policies to attract businesses and living wage jobs. He also understands the importance of regional partnerships between the city and the county to improve services and resources.
